Winter Blues

The Moon is out and it keeps me up so late at night. I cannot sleep and I have to go to work early. Winter causes this anxiety that is primitive. Like I have to stay alert in case of emergency.

New Year

It must be winter because I am presently in the middle of 4 knitting projects that I hop back and forth between...two pair of socks, a scarf and a hat. Also, it's 18 degrees outside and I don't have a pair of mittens. How crazy is that?

Happy New Year, 2008

I have been far from the needles these past few weeks as I am trying to do my National Boards for Teaching and boy is it hard. Light a candle for me. Also, it has been the holidays so lots of family activities. Here are some photos.

Feeling the Love!

I received the best package from Miss Lucy today...A tough, cold, windy day and therre it is. Please, God, don't let me eat all the chocolate tonight. (But I'm so tempted.) Now I want to call in sick for a few days to knit the Noro Entrelac Scarf and Malabrigo hat. Lucy, I love you. Let's swap again and again. I hope you loved my swap pack, too.

Autumn

Just testing out my iphone. Now I can blog from my phone, gone mobile. Here's my favorite place to sit and knit. But it's getting cooler so the Buddha needs a scarf.

Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair

I went to the SAFF fair today and spent all my rent money on yarn. My favorite yarn seller was Miss Babs http://www.missbabs.com/ who had the most gorgeous hand dyed yarn. I'm going to make a Kimono sweater and socks with the yarn I bought from her.

I won something!!

I can't believe how lucky I am. I won this beautiful sock sack from the Coffee Swap. I have always wanted one of these but I felt it was too frivolous of me to want a special bag just for sock knitting. I am a lucky girl. And it's a Full Harvest Moon. Shine On!

Knitter's Coffee Swap Q& A

Knitter's Coffee Swap Q & A
1. I do not have a coffee grinder but if it is worth it, I can get one. So no preference.
2. I like High Test coffee - I can use a good zip in the morning. ( I teach Middle School!)
3. I am a purist... I really do not like flavored coffee. It tastes like perfume.
4. In the morning I drink coffee with a little milk. But I also love espresso so I will drink it black, too.
5. I have fond memories of drinking Cuban Coffee in Key West. (Bustelo). But that is for emotional reasons. For taste, I like the coffee that they serve at Drinkin'Beanz. (see their website at www.drinkinbeanz.com)
6. I am rather fussy about my coffee. I'll spend extra money for Paul Newman, or Starbucks rather than Folgers or Maxwell House.
7. I treat myself at my Knit Night on Thursdays to Skinny Cappuccino with Apricot/Macadamian Biscotti, but I love, love, love coffee with chocolate.
8. I like coffee with a shot of espresso. What do they call it? The Red Eye or Cafe Americano?
9. I am still in love with Noro Silk Garden. For sock yarn, I love Koigu.
10. I am a yarn snob...I hate working with cheap acrylics. Also I hear that chenille is tough to work with so I have stayed away from it.
11. Actually, I am making Lucy's socks from shrimp and crab shell yarn on two circs. And I'm making a pair of socks for Heidi from Kaffe Fassett Regia yarn.
12. My favorite colors are jewel tones - saffire, ruby, emerald, amythest, etc.
13. I am tired of pure wool after living in the Adirondacks for so many years, but not allergic to it.
14. I love being in knitting swaps and I love all the beautiful and talented women that I'm meeting on line. I love to read the blogs and to get comments. Love and peace to you all.

Talk Like a Pirate Day!

You are The Pirate

Do you remember the last time you took a chance? It was when you decided to leave the security of your mother's womb and headed for the bright light. It's time to head for the next bright light, my friend. Creativity is not your strong suit. You are good at doing what you are told to do and that, in itself, is a gift. It's not a gift to you, mind you, but a gift to those who will be there to tell you what to do. You like long walks on the beach and cuddling, but would never admit that to your pirate pals who think you are okay but can't always remember your name. Tapioca pudding seems a bit extreme for someone such as yourself, what with all the bumps and stuff. It's a good thing you are on a pirate ship, otherwise, you would be walking because you are positively pedestrian. Have a nice day.

What's Yer Inner Pirate?
brought to you by The Official Talk Like A Pirate Web Site. Arrrrr!

My pirate name is:

Captain Ethel Kidd

Even though there's no legal rank on a pirate ship, everyone recognizes you're the one in charge. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr!

Package Arrived!

My first EVER swap package arrived from Ellie. I went to the club house to run on the treadmill and there was a package for ME! I am eating the chocolate as we speak. The most beautiful tea cosy - I don't have one and have always wanted one. Beautiful blooming tea and a tin of green chai. Gorgeous yarn. Glorious stitch markers. Ellie, dear, I cannot thank you enough.

Happy Labor Day Week End!

I think I have finished my shopping for my two swaps. Now just to complete my projects. I am slightly diverted by the fact that Diana Gabaldon, author of the Outlander series, will be at our bookstore on Tuesday. I'm trying to read her newest book on Lord John before her talk so that I'm in on all the latest. That is slowing the knitting down a bit. I should have gotten her book on cd.

Now I'm Happy!

I've got my new Pals for the Harry Potter Swap and I'm so excited. Tomorrow is pay day and I'm going shopping. I love the Ravenclaw colors so this will be a blast!! As for my Questionnaire:
1. I'm a Gryffindor 2. I use double pointed bamboo needles but I'd like to learn to knit socks on 2 circulars. 3. Addie Turbos are too expensive 4. I'm not a Ravenclaw but I need to know what my Ravenclaw prefers - film or book colors? 5. I have no allergies, I'm easy.

Swap Crazy

I joined the Hogwarts Sock Swap. I just love this newly discovered world of swaps. It inspires me to knit when I have no reason to knit for myself or my family.

Good Day Sunshine

It's a good day. I received the name of the person for whom I will buy in the Knit1Tea2 swap. I am organizing a knitting group for the coffee shop on Thursday. And I made a cute little hat from left over Noro yarn.
